So all you jobseekers are aware that in September 2007- 57 600 more jobs were created and two-thirds of it opened up in the services industry. (As recorded from September 2007)
Aren’t these stats and facts supposed to mean that job-finding is a tad-bit easier now or at least more varied?
Maybe.
Maybe not.
Finding a job can take ages or perhaps even a second – if you are appointed on the spot. The job search gets more irritating when one hears, that a friend who has done everything similarly has already landed a job after that effortless two week search. At this point, it may seem to you that the ‘L’ word reigns such circumstances. But, really, luck has nothing to do with your job search.
There are so many factors that you need to take into consideration while searching for a job. Applying for jobs online, uploading your resume and then waiting for that phone call is not the way to look for a job. Well, at least it is not the most effective way to look for a job.
Why do you want/need the job- Search with a purpose!
You are not going to get anywhere without a direction. You have to know a few things: What kind of an industry you looking to join, what are your skills, what you have accomplished till date, etc. You have to maintain a positive outlook throughout your job search. No one can force you to find a job, except yourself. Ask yourself these few questions:
· Why are you looking for a job-apart from the obvious (for the money)?
· What jobs or sectors wouldn’t you mind working in, as an alternative?
· What matches your qualifications?
· What are some things you would like to do after you get a job?
You need to have the right kind of motivation in order for you to pursue job with complete determination. Set some goals, and form out your path accordingly. Those were a whole0lot of questions but crucial ones that you need to answer.
Attitude (Effort and Mindset)
A study at Harvard University found that people were appointed based on their attitude 85% of the time, and the rest 15% of the selection criteria was based on how smart they are and how knowledgeable they are.
Can an executive be a good executive without a good attitude? For a matter of fact, could a parent, teacher, salesman, employer, employee be good in their roles without a good attitude? The answer is, NO.
The foundation of success regardless of your chosen field is ATTITUDE. You must have the right attitude while searching for a job. Fresh graduates often have this perception that they need not look too hard and opportunities will knock endlessly on their doors. Some rely on their good grades and some are just too fussy.
What they fail to understand, is that opportunities are equal for everyone. Having a degree need not necessarily mean you will be offered jobs on a golden platter. It’s really about the attitude and how much the job means to the jobseeker and how this is portrayed.
Methods of searching
1) Networking- this method is hardly used and often misunderstood. Networking is not about sucking up to anyone so you can get a job. It’s abo |
